As I review my GAME plan I made a list of resources and
people I will need to line up to make it possible to Skype with students in
another state. My biggest problem will be in my new school because I am unsure
of available resources. I decided to make two “to-do lists.”
Former school
Resources: Media specialist, geography and language arts teacher,
computer access and potential technical problems.
Additional information I need: Who is willing to complete this
project? Specifically, which teachers are willing to invest the time and effort
to complete this project with me?
Steps taken so far: The media specialist and geography teacher have
agreed to work on the project. The language arts teacher is not so sure. I can
go ahead without her but would like to have her onboard.
New School
Resources: Media specialist-meet
with her and see what assistance she can give me. Curriculum specialist at the
school will need to be in the loop-meet with her. Social studies teacher-ask
for input.
Additional information I need:
Computer availability, Student technology skill level.
Steps taken so far: I had a
short meeting with the media specialist but will need to meet with her once
school begins.
Shelley,
ReplyDeleteYour media specialist will serve as a great resource at your new school. The lady that we have at our school is amazing. She always has great tips and tools and she is willing to help. Good luck!
Shelley,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are prepared to do everything possible to implement your GAME plan. Unfortunately, you do not have control over any unforeseen circumstances that may occur in your new school. The media specialist will certainly be a valuable resource to help you implement your ideas. I am sure you will not have any trouble finding other teachers interested in collaborating on your SKYPE project. My wife teaches first grade. She has used Skype to collaborate with another first grade class that was all the way across the country. Your students will benefit from this experience.
Shelley,
ReplyDeleteChanging schools is tough! So many uncertainties. It sounds like you had a good plan started at your old school. That tells me that you have a knack for pulling people together, so I am sure you will do fine at the new school. It is a great idea to get your curriculum specialist into the loop. My experience is that they have many good resources and contacts. He/she might also have some pull with some of the other teachers and be able to make suggestions about who might be interested in working with you on your plan. Also, is it possible to work with your old school using Skype? It seems like that might be a good fit since you already have contacts there. Just some thoughts...

Having teachers that will help and work with you is very important. I have been extremely fortunate to have teachers that will help me, or allow me to work with them. The biggest difficulty I face is one set of laptops for our group of 17 math teachers and their availability.
ReplyDeleteNext year I plan on learning how to use personal response systems, or "Clickers". There is one teacher that has been using them for a couple years and my department head used them last year.

Shelley,
ReplyDeleteI too am changing schools next year, so I will be looking at how to implement my goals with the new resources I will have. I think that the media specialist will be your best option at getting instructional technology assistance. We also have Academic Coaches in our schools who can help with that area as well, so I will be looking to them for help. My new principal may also give me some ideas, so I plan to see what he can bring to the table as well.

Shelley,
ReplyDeleteIt is hard going into a new school, but I am sure it will be a great change for you. It sounds as if you will have the resources you will need to implement your GAME plan. In order to get the LA teacher to go ahead and agree to work with you perhaps you could discuss with her the benefits that implementing this plan will have on her students as well. I'm sure that if she sees the benefits we see through this course that she will want to participate. With the support of the media specialist, teachers and principal you are sure to succeed. Good luck continuing to implement your plan.
