My First Blog
This technology roller coaster I've gotten on is running full-speed up the the first hill! As a 40+ year old teacher, I am converting from "old school" to "new school" but my mind is having trouble keeping up. I must admit that I love learning all these 21st-Century skills that my students need. The scary thing is that at this moment, I am trying to lead them! I am not ready, but I am afraid they cannot wait. The time is here. Actually, I am already behind so I don't have time to pause. This girl is jumping in with both feet. I figure I can't hurt anything and I don't have time to look silly. My students need me to step up to the plate and introduce them to what is out there waiting for them. What they will be doing with it after they leave my classroom, I may never see, but I must help them learn how to express their thoughts and understand the responsibility of using this wondrous invention called the Internet. Technology is an integral part of who my students are. I need to get out of the way and let these future leaders flourish! But first, I think I'll try to "publish" my thoughts.....and I'm not sure I understand why anyone would care. Me, blogging? And to think I didn't even know how to upload my first paper in my master's class six months ago.

Hi Shelley,
ReplyDeleteI am also a 40+ teacher jumping into the tech world deeper than my knees for the first time. This class will definitely be a challenge for me, but I am excited to try out new technology services. I have used Facebook for a few years, but am not sure that will assist me in learning to blog on an academic site.
The set-up for your blog is really cute. We will get through this together, promise. If you are ever in doubt, ask your students. They love to teach us just as much as we love to teach them. Looking forward to the next 7 weeks.
ReplyDeleteHi Ladies!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the positive comments. Glad to know we're all in this together!
Hey Everyone...
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I'm not alone! I just joined the 40+ club and am trying to keep up... so here I am. My students and daughters have asked me how it is that I know everything about everything EXCEPT technology. Ha! I'll show them... I think. (?) Glad you're all along for the ride.
Well, I am in the almost 40 club with little experience and out of the classroom for a few, and I am starting to feel that I have too much to learn yet. Shelley, that is precisely the attitude, to keep going on, one step at a time. This is not so difficult to learn, we just need some practice, and I am really glad we are kind of getting it now here. So, we are all in this together, and you know what? This is what makes us change agents for our students' future.
ReplyDeleteNaida, Amen! This will absolutely bring change for our students. I'm already seeing the possibilities for blog and I'm really interested in setting up a Wiki....although I'm not sure what the difference is!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm so glad to know we have a big club of the 40+ students out there!
